Active Learning

Image
Padlet I chose to make a Padlet . It feels similar to the WhiteBoard option on Google Classroom but without the interaction with others on the same page. I looked at the Greetings from Room 211 blog for this assignment. This blog is from a classroom where one of the students went to Canada to film a movie. It allowed the student in Canada to stay in contact with his classmates as well as allow the classmates to learn about what life is like as a child actor on a film set. The teacher reviewed the students' comments and the student on the film set was able to post about their life while filming. He posted pictures and talked about life both on and off set. It gives the students a look at a life that they otherwise would not be able to experience. The student that was blogging about his life also added pictures and explanations about what was going on.  personal screenshot, Padlet Active Learning in the Classroom I think active learning is beneficial to the classroom. Mapping my digital space

Image
Image Credit: Mapping my Digital Space, personal image My Digital Space-Personal While making my digital map, I realized that I do not actually use as many apps as I thought I did. A lot of the apps that I use overlap between personal and professional. I tend to spend most of my personal time on streaming apps like Hulu or Disney+. This is usually on the weekends or anytime that I am off work. I also check my email but only when necessary. I tend to use Gmail for personal but also use Comcast for more professional exchanges. I also check my social media accounts daily as well as my text messages when something comes through. I tend to watch YouTube when there is a break or when I need to find a video of something that will help with work.   My Digital Space-Professional For my work in the library, I tend to spend most of my time on Baker & Taylor ordering books. I also use it to keep up to date with new releases and what is anticipated to be the best sellers or b...

Technology's Impact

Kahoot The tool that I chose was Kahoot. It falls under the "Games for learning" section of the ISTE article . Kahoot is considered a quiz game and offers a competitive nature to learning for the students. It is often used in classrooms to replace pencil and paper quizzes or for study purposes. Of the options that are available, most users play the game live and allow students to play against each other for points. The points in the game usually have no meaning but by playing the game, students usually get a pass fail grade on the assignment they are using Kahoot for. Kahoot can also be used as a fun game to pass the time after finals or in a program. There are other topics that the teens can choose from like movie trivia, music trivia, or just pop culture that would allow them to take a break from their usual use of the website. A teen or teacher can also make their own Kahoot quizzes and share them on the website. They can add video clips, audio clips, or images to the ques...

Self-Evaluation of Framework

What model? The model that I think I fall into most is the SAMR model. The SAMR model uses advancing technologies to substitute, augment, modify, and redefine what has already been taught or used. It gives everyone an opportunity to see what works best for them. An example of the SAMR model would be someone taking notes on paper before moving to Microsoft Word and finally Google Docs, as shown in this YouTube video .  Self-evaluation I think I fall into this category because where I work, we do not use much technology while working with the patrons. Especially the teens. When I do use technology with the teens, it is to help further something in a program. It is because of this and the steps we take to plan programs that I spend most of my time in the substitute and modify levels. When the teens were making buttons, they had an option to create their own design or color something that was already printed out. I used Google Images to find line art for the teens to color in an...

Introduction

Hello! My name is Samantha. I am a Teen Librarian at my home library. I haven't been working there very long but it is a lot of fun and I enjoy working with the teens a lot. I also am in charge of developing the teen collection and programming. I am also in charge of some of the displays in the Youth Services department. I greatly enjoy picking the books to showcase and making the display area look interesting.  I've mainly worked retail before working in a library. I also work comic cons. This year will be my third year working them. The convention I have worked the most for is FanExpo Chicago at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. I try to work as a handler but sometimes I work line management. It is still hard to wrap my head around who I have met and worked with. I attended cons before working them so I have met many people. Even if there isn't much going on, I love talking to everyone and hearing the stories that they tell. I also used to work a horror conv...
